Bad news continues

Sorry to be the bearer once again of bad news. Mum’s TIAs are continuing and, after having quite a bad one in physio on Wednesday, she’s now been referred to a neurologist.

I hasten to say these “turns” are consistent with TIAs, however the number she’s having is concerning. This is why the doctors are planning more tests.

So far, the main impact for Mum has been on her left-side neglect. She’s regressed somewhat in her ability to read and scan to her left and she’s also reporting numbness down her left side.

I’ll post again after we know more.

Dear Genevieve,I have just read Oliver Sacks new biography called On the move.He is that professor of neurology that you have mentioned who wrote The man who thought his wife was a hat and Awakenings which was made into a film with Robin Williams. He is 82 now and dying of liver cancer. In the latter part of the book he talks about strokes. He had a knee replacement in his seventies and was told by the medicos to’work through the pain”( I love this language like when my ankle was broken as well as bones in my foot and some physio said that to me while making me jump up and down steps! I wanted to knock her into next week!) Anyhow after the pain of the knee he hurt his back badly and as a result got neuralgia and the neuropathic pain.He said the neuropathic pain put him in a very dark place and was the worst thing he had ever experienced.I thought about this in relation to Gen.So sorry to hear about her new problems. Please give her my love and tell her that we the gang in Brisbane are still gunning for her.Anne

Gen, I’ll be up to see you this week. I’ve had a chest infection since I got home so I didn’t dare to take the risk of passing it on to you, when you already have enough to cope with. I’m all clear now, so see you soon. Love always.

Genny, My chest infection reared it’s ugly head again and I have been on a second course of antibiotics. All seems to be good now so hopefully I can get up to see you soon. I hope you are on the forward track again, now. Looking forward to seeing you.
