There is a real change of pace on the weekends – no therapies (or “T’s”) means there is time to unwind and relax before another big week of rehab. “Being in here is like having a full time job” and for someone who hasn’t been working for 10+ years, it’s taking some real getting used to.

Saturday was a real treat – “I hauled it in with flowers and an iPad! Dad got a box of chocolates and a lovely Japanese whisky.” Ben & Max have flown up again, so the room was filled with roses and sickly sweetness.

Both Lynn & Aunty Elsie visited on the weekend and “it was lovely to see them.”

On Sunday “Deidre & Warren brought the dogs to see me. Deidre says the dogs are looking everywhere for me at home – Little Emmy came running when she saw me – she sure knew who I was!” The little furry visitors brought a change of pace to the hospital and we spent a lovely afternoon in the garden with them.

“I loved talking to Rick on Skype. He’s coming home in April and says he’s taking two weeks carers leave in May and June to come and see me”. Anyone with a pair of ears is being told the news!

“I am still learning how to use the iPad & playing white board crosswords with the boys” – Mum’s vision is improving immensely and we’re really hopeful that her love of reading will be restored soon.

Today sees her return to her schedule of therapies -starting with Speech Therapy at 9am. There is a family meeting scheduled for this afternoon with the Allied Health team looking after Mum. We’re hoping to get an understanding of Mums deficiencies and limitations in the long term. We’re also planning for the weeks and months ahead, so today is an important step forward.

We’ll be in touch again soon. Mum is much more involved in the blog now (with the help of her new ipad) so she can see it all for herself!
