Today Mum had what I hope will soon be her normal day; her routine going forward, even when transferred to Queensland.
She had a great night’s sleep and a good morning chatting to family. She ate all her lunch as usual (she still loves her food) and then went to physio with Kath before ablutions and more time with family.
Mum is bright and alert again today and we’re hoping this is her new normal following the post-stroke exhaustion and the infection. She asked us to buy a gift for her great nurse, Jess, who is frankly fantastic and even wrote a poem about the buzzer in the facility, which goes off constantly. I’ll transcribe that once it’s done.
In terms of family, Aunty Deirdre went home today. We were sad to see her go. It’s been an incredibly stressful two weeks and her support has been invaluable.
Since Mum’s days are likely to be much like today and this will be such a long, slow process, I might dispense with the daily updates for now and spend some time in the next few days outlining Mum’s condition and the days leading up to her stroke.
In many ways, this is the beginning. And all we can do is take the next step with her.
