Daily Update: Day 8.2

Some (comparatively) good news today as Mum has finally been cleared to move from the Acute Stroke Unit at Frankston hospital to a rehab facility.

Ever since the stroke, Mum has wanted to move back to Brisbane and to attend rehab at the Mater. However, while the medical staff have determined she is stable enough to move to a facility on the peninsula, they want to wait a week or two once she’s there before considering her transfer home.

Mum of course spends most of her time sleeping at the moment, which we’ve been assured is normal and even beneficial. Her blood pressure seems to have stabilised and the doctors say her wheeze is due to the weakness along her left side rather than a chest infection so that’s a relief as well. The nebuliser helps with that and hopefully she’ll get another good night’s sleep.

Mum would hate us to put a photo of her on the blog. But I’m going to do it anyway. At the moment, Mum has no movement or feeling in her left side and is blind in her left eye.

That’s a lovely photo of your Mum and Dad. I’m sure she’ll be ok with it. Glad there has been improvement! Bill will be down next Tuesday. He’s booked his flight.

Thanks for the updates Gen. The news is certainly encouraging. Could you tell Mum that her Brandy Puddings were a great success over here, as I gave permission for my mail to be opened (and consumed!) on Christmas Day, since I was going to be home. Apparently they went very quickly and were much appreciated. I am thinking of her and you guys every day. All my love. Rick

That’s the first big step forward for her. Thank you so much Deidre and Gennevene for keeping us all up-to-date. It really is a lovely photo. Love always, Fay
