Stroke Me

My name is Genny Ensor and a week ago, one day before New Year’s Eve 2014, I had a stroke. I don’t know if anyone reading this has ever had a stroke but, if you have, you’ll know what I mean when I say it was one of the most horrible experiences I’ve ever had.

I’m in the Acute Stroke Unit of the Frankston hospital at the moment, a short distance from Melbourne. Those of you who know me know this is not my home state. I was visiting my son for New Year’s when this happened and now I’m going to be living in Victoria for quite a while it seems.

This is not me writing this blog, of course.  At least not yet. But it’s a long road ahead and I hope that in one year – New Year’s Eve 2015 – I’ll be typing this post myself with both my hands.

Once you read about my current condition you’ll know this goal is more than aspirational – and not just because I was a terrible typist before the stroke. I can’t move almost the entire left side of my body at the moment. In fact, right now, I can’t even recognise my left hand as being mine. But with hard work, rehab and the support of my amazing friends and family, I believe that I can do it.

See you all in one year.

Hi Genny. Rehab is amazing. When mum had her first stroke, she was completely paralized down the left side. Speech affected etc. But she came good and was able to walk and move her arm again. So keep your spirits up. Genny. Both Steve and I are praying for you. Lots of love Lyn xxxx

Hi Gen, my heart aches for you but my head knows you will get through this! When you’re strong enough, go into: info@noigroup.com – It is all about the brain. Knowledge is power and the concept of neuroplasticity is where it’s at so sleep well and come back ready for the long haul. ( we thought study was over – the universe is having a giggle and I’m a year ahead.) Much love, Isobelle

  3. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Lots of love, Brett, Ellie, Millie and Felix.

  4. Genny, you are my beautiful and strong friend. If you say 31.12 2015 then that’s when it will be.
