After a Stroke: Plastic Brains
We talk a lot about neuroplasticity these days but what is it? And what kind of outcomes can we expect for a stroke victim with the kind of severe right hemisphere brain damage Mum has? I admit I was hoping to put some more work into today’s post on neuroplasticity but I’ve unfortunately been very sick myself…

Crosswords and a cup of tea
By Max and Ben A day without laughter is a day wasted – Charlie Chaplin For many of us, an afternoon playing cryptic crosswords without actually being able to see the words, read the clues or fill in the blanks sound like torture. For one ‘Genny Ensor’ this sounds like a perfect Sunday! Despite the…

A Visit from the Boys
By Benjamin and Max Be not afraid of going slowly, be afraid only of standing still. – Chinese Proverb Thursday evening saw Benjamin and I arrive in Brisbane for the weekend. After a quick visit to the hospital we were astonished with the progress Mum had made. What a difference a few days make! When…

A Weekend of Visits
Even without visits from her physio, OT, speech therapist and doctor, Mum’s weekend ended up being extremely busy. She had visits from loads of family and friends. She was very happy to see her friends Annie and Sally first up Saturday morning as well as Dad’s brothers Steve and Russell and their wives Lyn and Nola.…

Busy busy busy
It’s been an extremely busy couple of days for Mum since she transferred up to Brisbane. One thing about Prince Charles so far; it’s been all hands on deck since Mum arrived. Mum was transferred to the Prince Charles this morning from the Mornington Centre, with an ambulance taking her to Tyabb airfield at 7am for a 9am flight. I’ve spoken to Dad this afternoon and Mum is safely ensconced in the sub-acute unit at the Prince Charles in Chermside. He reports she had a good flight…

And we’re off!
So it seems that Mum’s transfer has finally been confirmed and she’ll be leaving the Mornington Centre tomorrow at 7am and arriving at the Prince Charles in the early afternoon. I guess this is still weather permitting, and we’ll all believe it when it happens, but for now Mum is off to Brisbane tomorrow.

Let’s do lunch…and other things!
By Jennifer Ensor On Sunday, Caitlin, Claire and I (Jennifer) paid another flying visit to Mornington to see Mum before she heads off to the Prince Charles Rehab Unit in Brisbane – hopefully on Wednesday all things going well. We’ve been travelling down to the Mornington Peninsular from Sale once a week (6 hour round…

Take it slow (Let it go)
As has been mentioned before, Mum has some problems at mealtimes – mostly because she puts huge portions on her spoon and then keeps eating even though she hasn’t swallowed. Because her left side is paralysed, food can build up in her left cheek as she eats, leading Dad to call her his kangaroo. The rules for…
