It’s been two weeks since Mum’s stroke and today we finally saw some real improvement in her overall mood and energy levels. Mum’s post-stroke exhaustion seems to be passing (although being treated for her urinary tract infection is probably helping too).
When she was told that her brother Bill was coming to visit today, she stuck out her tongue and made a raspberry sound. When asked why, she said, “He’s our baby brother. He’s a stinkpot.”
We finally touched base with our main contact person, Kath, today. Kath is also Mum’s physiotherapist and she will be in physio from tomorrow. We had some issues again this morning with the staff at the rehab centre not taking care of Mum’s hygiene needs and she wasn’t ready for her rehabilitation. Everyone involved was pretty unimpressed.
She did have some time with the occupation therapist, who she complained kept asking her to do impossible things.
In the afternoon, the nurses put Mum in a wheelchair and she was bright, alert and conversational; making jokes and doing crosswords. It was a busy day with visits from the tribe: Bill, Doug, Deirdre, Dad, Ben, his partner Max and of course myself. Mum had her dinner in the common room instead of in bed but was then completely wiped out and was tucked up in bed when I left at 6pm.
