The Hardest Thing

The hardest thing sometimes is to ask for help; especially in our culture of self-sufficiency. But sometimes the bravest thing to do is to admit you can’t do everything alone. And despite our best efforts, that is the situation we find ourselves in.

So today I’m going to broach the uncomfortable topic of money. It’s been more than 18 months since Mum’s stroke and the cost of care is starting to bite. Mum needs 24-hour nursing care and this is an extremely expensive proposition.

So here’s where I turn to you, world. I need to raise some money for Dad for the down payment on Mum’s nursing home. I’ve set up a fundraising page with My Cause.

I’m not asking you personally for money. In fact, both Dad and I feel very uncomfortable about friends and family pitching in financially after everything you’ve already done.

What I’m asking today is for you to send the information about the crowdfunding through your networks – on Facebook or Twitter or anywhere else you hang out online- so we can get our appeal out there.

I’ve set the target at $200,000 even though we need more than that. And I don’t expect to raise that from donations alone. Over the next few months I’ll be coming up with other means of raising money.

I am currently working on a book based on this blog about stroke and its impact on a person and their families. Anybody who donates money will receive a free e-book copy of this book when it is finished.

I can say that every cent raised through this site will be put towards Mum’s care.

Thanks for all your love and support over the last 18 months. It’s appreciated.
